Industry 4.0 – The Fourth Industrial Revolution

Industry 4.0 – The Fourth Industrial Revolution

The first three industrial revolutions came as a result of mechanization, electricity and IT. Now the fourth industrial revolution is shaping with the introduction of smart devices onto the shop floor. This will drive a new wave of digitalization, awareness, and automation that will re-invent manufacturing, supply chain and logistics.

It will fundamentally change how products are ordered, built, and consumed. In the future, businesses will establish global networks that incorporate their machinery, warehousing systems and production facilities in Cyber-Physical Systems. Smart machines, storage systems and production facilities will autonomously share information, trigger actions and control each other independently. This facilitates fundamental improvements to the industrial processes involved in manufacturing, engineering, material usage and supply chain and life cycle management.

Smart factories take a new approach to production. Smart products are uniquely identifiable, may be located at all times and know their own history, current status and alternative routes. The embedded manufacturing systems are vertically linked with business processes within factories and enterprises and horizontally linked to dispersed value networks that can be managed in real time – from the moment an order is placed right away to outbound logistics.

This presentation outlines the huge potential held by Industry 4.0: How smart factories allow individual customer requirements to be met and how even one-off items can be manufactured profitably.

Delegates will learn:

  • What is the “New kind of Normal” created by Cyber-physical systems
  • What Industry 4.0 means to production, supply chain and logistics
  • How to exploit the potential of Industry 4.0 and the role ERP systems play
